Basharat Qadir

Basharat Qadir was born in Lahore (British) India on 23rd October 1944, and is the only one of the poets contained here to have interacted with their progenitor Sir Abdul Qadir. Having been raised with Urdu poetry ringing in his ears recited in his father’s mellifluous voice, he acquired a love for it. Later, in school, he was introduced to English poetry, which too very quickly resonated with him and, yet later, was reinforced by perusal of his sister Shirin’s collection of her favourite poems in English. In both languages he would recite poetry that he had memorized, and inspired his brother, cousin and son whose poetry is contained here, with real appreciation of poetry. Though he chose to follow his father and grandfather into the legal profession, he retained a passion for poetry in both languages, directly in himself, and indirectly by inspiring the three above named poets and some of their progeny — which has led to this collection of poems.
